Welp, okay, the first week that I haven’t been able to hit two books.

That came earlier than expected.

Still, I think I’m glad that I decided to take this route; this is not a thing worth stressing myself out over.

#5: ARCHIVE OF THE FORGOTTEN by A.J. Hackwith

The follow-up to last week’s read, “Library of the Unwritten”, which as you may recall I found to be a little unsatisfying.

The sequel did a lot to bridge that gap for me. We’re back with the characters we grew to like in the first book, but this time, they had the space to evolve in new and exciting ways. Furthermore, the conflict was more character-driven than in the first book, which made it feel a lot more tense.

For the most part, this book did everything a sequel is meant to do: expand on the promise of the first book without losing the elements that made the first book enjoyable. I think it did everything it was meant to. It drove the characters forward, as well as the themes and the metafictional aspects, in fun and tasty ways.

If you, like me, thought the premise of Library of the Unwritten was interesting but didn’t quite get played to its full potential, definitely check out the sequel. This is everything I wanted from the first book. Hero, in particular, continues to be the standout character, and I’m excited to see if the author keeps expanding on this concept.
